# Catalog, media and content settings

Configuration

Three settings pages decide how the catalog looks and behaves in the storefront: **Catalog** (what product and category pages show, search, reviews, sorting), **Media** (image sizes and allowed files) and **Content** (whether the blog, news and knowledgebase are switched on). None of them changes your products - they change how products and content are presented.

### Where to find it

All three are under **Settings**: **Settings → Catalog**, **Settings → Media** and **Settings → Content**. On a multi-store installation, choose the store in **Multi-store configuration for** at the top of the page first.

### Catalog settings

**Settings → Catalog**, tab **General**.

The page has seven tabs: **General**, **Performance**, **Product reviews**, **Search**, **Compare products**, **Sharing** and **Sort options**. The most used settings:

| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Allow viewing of unpublished product details page** / **Discontinued message for unpublished products** | Whether an unpublished product's URL still opens (useful to keep search engine traffic) and whether it then says the product is discontinued. |
| **Show SKU on product details page**, **Show manufacturer part number**, **Show GTIN** | Which identifiers appear on the product page. |
| **Show "free shipping" icon** | Marks products that ship free. |
| **Allow product sorting**, **Allow view mode changing**, **Default view mode (grid or list)** | Controls on category, brand and collection listings. |
| **Default page size**, **Default page size options (3,6,9) comma separated** | How many products a listing shows per page and which alternatives the customer can pick. |
| **Include products from subcategories** | A parent category also lists the products of its subcategories. |
| **Category breadcrumb enabled**, **Show second picture on hover on catalog pages** | Navigation and listing presentation. |
| **'Recently viewed products' enabled**, **'New products' page enabled**, **Show best sellers on home page**, **'Products also purchased' enabled** | Merchandising blocks and how many items each shows. |
| **Product reviews must be approved**, **Allow anonymous users to write product reviews**, **Product review possible only after purchasing product** | Review moderation (tab **Product reviews**). Approve reviews under **Catalog → Product reviews**. |
| **Search page. Products per page**, **Search autocomplete enabled**, **Search term minimum length**, **Search by SKU**, **Search by Description** | Storefront search behaviour (tab **Search**). |
| **Show a share button**, **Share button code** | Social sharing on the product page (tab **Sharing**). |
| Sort options grid | Enable, disable and reorder the sort choices customers see (position, name, price, newest…) (tab **Sort options**). |

Tab **Performance**.

The **Ignore … (sitewide)** switches let GrandNode skip work on every product page and listing when you do not use a feature: if you have no discounts, **Ignore discounts (sitewide)** saves a lookup per price; if you never schedule availability dates, leave **Ignore "filtering start and end date available products" (sitewide)** on. Switch the matching option off before you start using the feature, otherwise it will seem not to work. **Customers have independent product price** enables per-customer prices set on the customer record.

### Media settings

**Settings → Media**.

Every size is the longest edge, in pixels, of the image GrandNode generates for that place: **Product thumbnail image size (catalog)**, **Product detail image size**, **Category thumbnail image size**, **Cart/Wishlist thumbnail image size** and so on. Thumbnails are generated on first request and cached, so changing a size takes effect for new requests.

| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Maximum image size** | Uploaded pictures larger than this are scaled down on upload. |
| **Image quality** | Compression quality (0-100) of generated images. |
| **Default picture zoom enabled** | Zoom on the product picture. |
| **Allowed file types** | Extensions allowed for uploads through the file manager and download fields. |
| **File manager - enabled commands** / **disabled UI commands** | What staff can do in the built-in file manager used by the HTML editor. |

### Content settings

**Settings → Content**, tab **Blog**.

Three tabs, each with an on/off switch for the feature and a few options:

- **Blog** - **Blog enabled**, **Posts page size**, comments from guests, notification about new comments, showing the latest posts on the home page and in search autocomplete.
- **News** - **News enabled**, archive page size, comments and home page block.
- **Knowledgebase** - **Knowledge base enabled** and comment options.

### Tips and common mistakes

- After changing image sizes, check a category page and a product page on a phone as well - themes scale images with CSS, but a too-small thumbnail looks blurred.
- Turning off **Blog enabled** also removes the blog link from the top menu; the **Display "Blog"** switch in [General settings](https://grandnode.com/configuration-general-settings) only matters while the blog is enabled.
