# Courses (online lessons)

Content management

GrandNode has a small learning module for selling **online courses**: a course is a set of lessons - text, video and downloadable attachments - that customers get access to after they buy the product the course is linked to. Use it for workshops with a video companion, training for B2B customers, or paid how-to series.

### Where to find it

**Content → Course** has two entries: **Course level** (Beginner, Intermediate...) and **Manage courses**.

### Create a course

1. First create the **product** customers will buy - usually a virtual product (no shipping) with the course price. See [Products](https://grandnode.com/catalog-products).
2. Add the levels you need under **Course level**.
3. In **Manage courses** click **Add new**. On **General info** enter the **Name**, **Short description**, **Description**, a picture, the **Level**, and choose the **Product** that grants access. Tick **Published**.
4. Fill in the **SEO** tab - the course has its own page and address - and save.

### Subjects and lessons

**Subjects** group the lessons into chapters ("Getting started", "Drivetrain and brakes"). On the **Lessons** tab click **Add new lesson** and enter:

- the **Name**, **Short description** and the lesson text (**Description**);
- the **Subject** and **Display order**;
- a **video file** uploaded to the store, a **picture**, and an **attachment** - a download such as a checklist or a PDF;
- **Published**.

### Who can open a course

- A customer who has **bought the linked product** sees the course in **My account → Courses** and can open its lessons. Each lesson can be marked as finished, so the customer sees their progress.
- Guests - visitors who are not signed in - cannot open courses.
- Staff with the course permission can open unpublished courses to check them.
- The My account tab can be hidden with **Hide 'My courses' tab** in the customer settings, for stores that do not sell courses.

### Tips

- Large videos make the database and backups big; for long video courses, host the videos on a video platform and embed them in the lesson text (YouTube and Vimeo are allowed embeds).
- Sell a course in a bundle with a physical product - for example a workshop kit - using a bundled product (see [Product types](https://grandnode.com/catalog-product-types)).
