# Customer tags

Customers

A **customer tag** is a simple label you attach to customers - "vip", "wholesale", "newsletter-2026". Unlike customer groups, a tag grants no permissions and does not change prices by itself. It is a way to mark and find people, and to target them in promotions.

### Where to find it

**Customers → Customer tags** lists every tag with the number of customers who have it.

### Tag a customer

1. Open the customer under **Customers → Customers**.
2. In the **Customer tags** field on the **Customer info** tab, type a tag and press Enter. A tag that does not exist yet is created.
3. Save the customer.

To see or manage everyone with a tag, open the tag from the list. The **Customers** tab lists the tagged customers and lets you remove the tag from one of them.

### Suggested products

The **Suggested products** tab of a tag links products to it. Customers with the tag see those products as suggestions on the storefront (where the theme shows the suggested products block) - an easy way to show wholesale-only items or VIP previews.

### Other uses

- Filter the customer list by tag to find the people you labelled.
- Export the filtered list for a mailing.
- Name tags in lower case with no spaces; they are easier to type and search.
