# Multi-vendor ecommerce platform

**GrandNode is an open-source multi-vendor ecommerce platform** built on ASP.NET Core, .NET 10 and MongoDB. Independent sellers list and sell their products in your store, each in their own vendor panel, while you run the platform, set the rules and take a commission. The marketplace is part of the core - no separate edition and no paid marketplace plugin.

### How a multi-vendor store works in GrandNode

- **The store owner** works in the admin panel: vendor settings, approving vendors, commission, payments, shipping methods, taxes and the storefront.
- **Each vendor** works in the vendor panel at `/vendor`: its own products, the order lines that belong to it, shipments, returns, reviews and reports.
- **Customers** buy from any number of vendors in one cart and one checkout, with one payment - not a separate checkout per seller.

The full model is explained in [marketplace and vendors: how it works](https://grandnode.com/vendor-panel-marketplace-overview).

### Vendor onboarding

- **Vendor applications:** signed-in customers apply to sell through a form on the storefront, optionally with mandatory terms of service.
- **Approval:** you review applications and activate vendors - see [creating and approving vendors](https://grandnode.com/vendor-panel-create-and-approve-vendors).
- **Vendor profiles:** each vendor gets its own SEO-friendly page with description, picture and products; you decide whether vendors may edit it themselves.

### Orders, shipping and commission

- **Split by vendor:** every order line remembers its vendor and the commission taken on it, and each vendor sees only its own items and amounts.
- **Shipping per vendor:** vendors create shipments with tracking numbers for their own items; the order is shipped when every vendor has shipped.
- **Returns:** merchandise returns of a vendor's items appear in that vendor's panel.
- **Commission:** a commission percentage per vendor. The customer pays the store, which keeps the commission and pays out the rest to the vendor.

### Trust and data isolation

- **Vendor reviews:** shoppers rate vendors, not only products, and you moderate the reviews.
- **Contact vendor:** customers can message a vendor from its page.
- **Isolation:** a vendor never sees another vendor's products, orders or customers, even by guessing a URL; access checks were hardened in GrandNode 2.4.

### Grow beyond one marketplace

With [multi-store](https://grandnode.com/multi-store-ecommerce), one installation can run several marketplaces - per country, niche or brand - with one back office. Add [B2B](https://grandnode.com/b2b-ecommerce) customer groups for trade buyers, and extend payouts, shipping or onboarding with plugins written in C# - see [plugin types](https://grandnode.com/developers-plugin-provider-types). More on the marketplace features is on [multi-vendor marketplace software](https://grandnode.com/multi-vendor-marketplace) and [Features](https://grandnode.com/features).

### Built on ASP.NET Core and MongoDB

GrandNode is an [ASP.NET Core ecommerce platform](https://grandnode.com/aspnet-core-ecommerce), self-hosted and free under the GPL-3.0. It runs in Docker on Linux or Windows, stores data in [MongoDB](https://grandnode.com/mongodb-ecommerce) and scales out with a Redis-synced cache - so a growing number of vendors and products does not mean a new platform. Guides for the vendor panel are in the [knowledgebase](https://grandnode.com/docs-vendor-panel).

### Frequently asked questions

#### Is the multi-vendor marketplace free?

Yes. Vendors, the vendor panel, commissions and vendor reviews are part of the open-source GrandNode, with no limit on the number of vendors.

#### Can customers buy from several vendors in one order?

Yes. The cart holds products from any number of vendors and the store owner, and checkout creates one order with one payment.

#### Are vendor payouts automatic?

No. The order records the commission per item; the store pays vendors outside GrandNode. Automated payouts can be added as a plugin for your payment provider.

#### Can vendors manage their own shipping?

Yes. When the store ships per vendor, each vendor creates shipments and tracking numbers for its own items in the vendor panel.

#### Can you migrate our existing marketplace?

Yes. We migrate products, customers, orders and SEO URLs for a fixed price - [request a quote](https://grandnode.com/migration).
