# Maintenance tools and logs

System and maintenance

**System → Maintenance** collects the clean-up jobs you run by hand. None of them is needed daily; they keep the database and disk tidy on long-running stores.

### The tools

![The Maintenance page: deleting guest customers with a date range and only without shopping cart, clear most viewed on the product, deleting old exported files with a date range, and convert pictures to WebP](https://grandnode.com/Plugins/Theme.GrandNodeCom/Content/kb/system/maintenance.webp)

System → Maintenance.

| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Deleting guest customers | Deletes guest records created in a date range. **Only without shopping cart** keeps guests with something in their cart. |
| Clear field Most Viewed on the product | Resets the view counters used for "most viewed" lists. |
| Deleting old exported files | Deletes export files left on the server in a date range. |
| Convert picture to webp format | Converts stored pictures to WebP, which is smaller and faster to load. |

Back up the database before bulk deletions and the picture conversion.

### Other entries under Maintenance

- **Schedule tasks** - see [Scheduled tasks](https://grandnode.com/system-scheduled-tasks).
- **Custom css** and **Custom JS** - small additions to the storefront without a theme change.
- **Robot.txt** - edit the robots.txt file search engines read.
- **Developer tools** - API users for the web API (see [The REST API](https://grandnode.com/developers-rest-api)) and the Roslyn compiler for script extensions.

### Logs

GrandNode writes its log through the standard .NET logging system. Where the entries go depends on the hosting: the console (and so `docker logs`), the Windows event log or IIS stdout log, or Azure Application Insights when `ApplicationInsights` is configured. The level is set in the `Logging` section of `appsettings.json`. When something fails, the log and the **System information** page are the first things to look at.

What customers and staff did in the store is recorded separately in the activity log, shown on each customer's page.
