# A payment or shipping method is missing at checkout

Troubleshooting and FAQ

Customers report that a payment or shipping option is missing, or checkout says no shipping is available. Every method passes several filters; one of them removes it.

### Payment method missing

1. The plugin is **installed** and the method is **active** under **Configuration → Payment → Payment methods** - for the right store.
2. It is **configured**: gateways without API keys usually hide themselves or fail.
3. **Payment method restrictions** do not exclude the customer's country or the chosen shipping method.
4. The cart total is not zero - free orders skip payment unless **Show payment info if cart is zero** is on.
5. Some methods require a shippable product (Cash on delivery can be set so).
6. With only one method and **Skip payment step if only one exist**, the payment step is skipped on purpose.

### No shipping methods

1. A shipping provider is **active** under **Configuration → Shipping → Shipping providers**.
2. The provider has **rates for the address**: by-weight rates need a rate for the country, state, zip and weight range of the cart.
3. **Shipping method restrictions** do not exclude the country or the customer group.
4. The country **allows shipping** (Configuration → Countries).
5. The products are marked as **shipping enabled**; carts with only downloadable or virtual products skip shipping entirely.
6. Product weights are filled in when a weight-based provider is used.

### Checkout cannot be completed

- **Minimum order subtotal / total** in the sales settings is not reached.
- **Anonymous checkout** is off, so guests must sign in.
- A required checkout attribute or product attribute is missing.
- Terms of service must be accepted on the cart page.
