Pages return 404 (page not found)
A 404 means GrandNode found no published item for the address in the current store and language. The causes, from the most common:
Right after installation
Product, category and page addresses are registered when the application starts. Directly after the installation wizard, the application has not restarted with the new database yet, so these addresses return 404 while the home page works. Restart the application once after installing.
The item is not visible
- It is not published, or its start/end dates exclude today.
- It is limited to another store or to customer groups the visitor is not in.
- A product is not visible individually (for example a product that only exists inside a grouped product).
- The page is limited to a language and the visitor uses another.
Staff with the right permission can often still preview unpublished items, so always test in a private window.
The address changed
A renamed item redirects from its old address automatically. If you deleted an item, or deleted its old name under Configuration → Search engine friendly names, the old address returns 404. For addresses from a previous platform, add rewrite rules - see Friendly URLs and redirects.
sitemap.xml returns 404
The file is created by the Generate sitemap XML file task, which is off after installation. Enable it or click Run now; see Sitemap and robots.txt.
